So, if you go into used game stores you’ll usually find the old Contra games. Unfortunately they’re overpriced because they’re “rare”. Whatever.
I fixed this problem. I walked into Game Stop and purchased Contra 4 for $20. It’s like a blast from the past but with better graphics and portability. You play the game in Arcade Mode and once you beat it, you’ll be introduced to .. Challenge Mode (DUN DUN DUNNNNN). I have no idea what this entails as I haven’t beat the game yet.
The game is pretty cool as it’s marketed as a direct sequel to the Contra games on the original Nintendo consoles. A nice feature when I turned my system back on was the option to “Resume Game”. Whoa, auto save?! Amazing. You can even choose your character and turn off certain things like annoying voice effects. While it’s comical to hear a Duke Nukem-esque voice in a Contra game, it is not fun to hear “COME GET SOME” every time you die.
You don’t really utilize the touch screen an awful lot but eh, it’s a Contra game. A classic side-scroller indeed!
